You may have seen short clips on social media of someone playing guitar by tapping the strings with the fingers of both hands. That player is Ichika Nito, a Japanese guitarist.
For this profile, we went through his YouTube channel description, the titles of all 707 videos that were public on October 31, 2026, Ibanez's official pages and articles in guitar magazines outside Japan. The numbers were measured by this site through the YouTube API on October 31, 2026.
Who Is Ichika Nito?
Ichika Nito's YouTube channel description consists of a single line: “i play guitar” and nothing more. Beyond that, there are just links to Spotify, Instagram, X and the like, and nothing that reads like a self-introduction. It's a strikingly minimal bio. Maybe it's his way of saying: just watch the videos.
For clues to his background, you have to turn to interviews. A March 2026 article on NiEW (a sponsored conversation piece, labeled PR) introduces him as someone who was born in Osaka in 1994 and started posting performance videos while he was in university. According to the same article, the first instrument he played was not guitar but piano.
His channel was opened on November 10, 2018. As of October 31, 2026, it had 2.77 million subscribers, about 525.91 million total views and 707 videos.
As far as we checked, we found nothing about his real name or about marriage, either in his own posts or in articles about him.
A 30-Second “i miss you” on Day One
Ichika Nito's channel was opened in November 2018, but when we sorted every video from oldest to newest, the oldest one still public dates from January 27, 2019. Perhaps he spent the two-plus months after opening the channel working out what to post. On January 27, 2019, the 23-second “Exotic” went up at 1:58 p.m. JST, followed by the 30-second “i miss you” at 2:15 p.m. JST.
As of October 31, 2026, this “i miss you” had 11.94 million views, making it the third most-viewed video on his channel. In an article from February 2026 (in Japanese), the Japanese music news site THE FIRST TIMES calls the song “his signature song for now” (translated from the Japanese) and goes so far as to say that at his shows outside Japan, audiences sing along to the melody. As of October 31, 2026, nine videos had “i miss you” in the title, including one that explains how to play it.
In other words, the 30 seconds he posted on day one have stayed his calling card for more than seven years.
Minute-Long Clips and the Audition Videos
Counting the lengths of Ichika Nito's videos, we found that as of October 31, 2026, 420 of the 707 public videos ran 60 seconds or less. The median length is 47 seconds, and only 12 videos run longer than 10 minutes. Almost all the titles are in English, too: only 13 of the 707 contain any Japanese. Viewers in Japan might find that a little surprising.
The most-viewed video on his channel is “When Metallica only gives you 60 seconds to audition” from January 2023.
It's a 69-second video built on that premise, and as of October 31, 2026, it had 24.26 million views. Two more videos in the same format, in which a band gives him only 30 seconds or only 5 seconds, are also among his 20 most-viewed videos. In second place is “I Play 14 String Guitar” from March 2021, with 19.27 million views as of October 31, 2026.
They are built to get across in a minute without words, which is probably why they are watched regardless of country. In their 2026 articles, NiEW and THE FIRST TIMES both report that about 70% of his social media followers are outside Japan. We have no way of measuring where his viewers are, but judging by how he titles his videos, the channel seems to have been made with an audience outside Japan in mind from the start — that is, for viewers like you.
The Ibanez Signature Models
In 2021, the guitar brand Ibanez released Ichika Nito's signature model, the ICHI10. A news post on Ibanez's Japanese website introduces him as “Ichika, a guitarist who continues to draw attention from around the world with his finely honed sensibility and his original style and tone” (translated from Ibanez's Japanese news post).
The ICHI10 belongs to Ibanez's headless Q Series, and an article in Guitar World (June 30, 2021) reported it as the flagship of the first headless series Ibanez had ever released. “Ibanez's first-ever Japanese signature artist” is how the same article also describes him. THE FIRST TIMES likewise calls the ICHI10 “the first signature model by a Japanese artist” (translated from the Japanese), but we could not find this wording on Ibanez's official pages.
On his own channel, he posted a video of himself playing “Awakening” on this guitar on July 1, 2021.
As of October 31, 2026, it had 5.77 million views, and its description included a link to the Ibanez product page. When we looked at Ibanez's artist page on October 31, 2026, it listed other models bearing his name, such as the ICHI00, alongside the ICHI10. Since there is more than one model with his name on it, his relationship with the brand has probably been a fairly long one.
The Miming Allegation and a One-Take Performance
Search for “Ichika Nito” and the word “fake” sometimes comes up. To give the conclusion first: Guitar World takes the view that a one-take video showed he really can play.
According to an article in Guitar World (February 12, 2026), a YouTube channel outside Japan had posted a video that analyzed his 2019 “i miss you” clip and claimed he was miming. Around the same time, Ichika appeared in HIGHLIGHT, a project from the YouTube channel THE FIRST TAKE, and played “i miss you” in an unedited one-take performance. Guitar World writes that the performance proves “that he can play what he puts out on social media.” It also explains that recording a part first and then playing along to it on camera is no different from making a music video.
We could not confirm whether Ichika himself answered the allegation directly.
A First Full-Length Album and His Bands
On January 30, 2026, Ichika Nito released his first full-length album, The Moon's Elbow. When we looked on October 31, 2026, the descriptions of his top three videos by views all opened with an announcement of this album and listed its 11 tracks. He seems to be using his older hits as a doorway to the new record. The music video for the title track came out on January 31, 2026, and features the guitarist Marcin.
Beyond his solo work, Ibanez's artist page lists two groups he plays in: Dios and ichikoro. According to THE FIRST TIMES, ichikoro is a group with Enon Kawatani and others, and Dios is a group with tanaka and Sasanomaly. True to that one-line description, wherever he turns up, he seems to be simply someone who plays guitar.
If he's caught your interest, the 30-second “i miss you” is the place to start.
